FOSTER

Fostering is Crucial

Adopting one of our rescues is the best way to help us reach our goal of saving as many hounds as we can. The next best way to support the cause is to be a foster family for our pups waiting for adoption.

Fostering means providing a dog with a place to live until the dog gets adopted or sometimes for short periods of time pending placement elsewhere. TLS provides food, medical treatment, and other needed items for your foster.

Fostering for TLS

It is completely FREE To be a foster family for The London Sanctuary. TLS will provide food and all necessary medical treatments such as vaccines, heartworm treatments, etc., for all of our hounds. All we ask is that our fosters agree to help TLS find an adopter for the foster hound in these ways:

Provide a safe and loving environment for our rescues while they wait for adoption in your home.

Coordinate transportation for your pup to receive necessary medical treatments and to attend one adoption event a month.

Snap adorable pictures and videos of your foster so that we can share their story on our social media platforms.

But don’t worry! Often our foster network works together to help with transport, scheduling, etc. if a foster parent needs help at any given time.

TYPES OF FOSTERING

Short Term Fostering

A short term foster is someone who takes in dogs until they are adopted. This could be for a few short weeks up to a few months, depending on the dog’s medical condition and background when rescued. Some dogs need to be fostered longer due to medical or socialization needs prior to becoming adoptable.

Long Term Fostering

An extension of TLS rescue efforts is to find loving homes for hounds that are deemed unadoptable due to their advanced medical needs or age. The London Sanctuary is always looking for fosters for these special sanctuary dogs. Sanctuary fosters will be placed in a home indefinitely until they pass on. Someone who is looking for a more long term foster situation would be perfect for our sanctuary hounds.

THE PROCESS

Once you have submitted your application to foster for TLS, it is automatically sent to our application processing team.

TLS will reach out to you to establish contact and to coordinate the application process.

Each individual over the age of 18 in your household will be subject to a background check.

We will conduct a home visit (in person or virtual) to ensure a good fit.

If you live in an apartment or rental property, the management company will be asked if it is okay for you to have a dog in your home.

If you already have pets, a vet check will be required. A TLS volunteer will ask your vet if your pet is up to date on necessary vaccines, has been spayed/neutered, and is on a heartworm preventative regimen.

The London  Sanctuary will review the application and, if approved, we will coordinate meet-n-greet and transfer.
